Great. Let’s dive in.

5 Keys to a Successful Google Plus Marketing Strategy

As with any social media marketing strategy, it’s important to develop it with certain elements in place. You can get as creative as you want, however implementing some key points in your Google Plus marketing strategy will help you drive success at a much faster pace than you would otherwise.

Key #1: Take advantage of SEO benefits

Surprise, surprise. Google Plus is a fantastic channel if search engine optimization is something you care about. It’d be silly not to take advantage of that! Surely, SEO is a hugely complex topic that deserves its own attention but assuming you are at least somewhat aware of its practices, there are several things you can do to make sure you are reaping the full SEO benefits from using Google Plus.

First of all – If your business has a physical location, it’s important that you set up and manage the correct type of page. This will put your business on the map quicker (once you get your location verified) and it is the next step to being found easier through Google search results.

Secondly – Prioritizing and including keywords in your posts, using hashtags, and sharing posts from your website onto Google Plus are some of the other ways in which you can take advantage of this fantastic channel.

Be mindful of SEO when posting but don’t let it overwhelm you. It’s really not as complicated as you might think – at least not when it comes to Google Plus. (And my G.Plus Course students can attest to that!)

Key #2: Optimize your page

As with any social media platform, optimization is key to making sure your brand is portrayed in the best possible light to your audience AS WELL as reaping the full benefits of using it. Google Plus is no different. While there are ways you can optimize your page or profile for SEO benefits, there are other ways optimize your account as well.

With any social media channel, make sure your page is optimized for highest conversions. Google+ is no exception. (tweet thistwitter-icon

Brand aligned – Being guided by your brand strategy, make sure that your profile reflects what your business is and stands for. What is your mission? Why are you in business? Are you using the right graphics to communicate what you want to communicate?

Don’t forget the details – On a more technical side, is your Google Plus page verified and linked with your website? Have you filled out all the contact information and the contributing links to link your profile with what’s out there in the interwebs?

Make sure your Google Plus profile or page is optimized to communicate its message in the quickest and most effective way possible.

Key #3: Make your posts stand out

Another thing that makes Google Plus the coolest platform ever is its ability to format posts and make them stand out in any way you wish.

Want to write a mini blog post in a simple Google Plus? Go for it. There’s no word limit and people LOVE longer posts on there. The more informative the better.

Google+ is one of the only platforms that gives you total control over how your content looks. (tweet thistwitter-icon

Want to post an image of your recipe or infographic to bring extra eyeballs to the post? You do that, it’s a great way to get more attention to your posts. Unlike Facebook, which changes dimensions of the images we upload (with a preference for square-ish graphics), Google Plus is closer to Pinterest in its way to present vertical images that take up more room. It’s awesome.

Key #4: Actively grow your community

What’s a social network without people? In order to make the most out of your Google Plus strategy, you have to actually have people in your community. Otherwise, what’s the point of posting amazing content if no one is gonna see it, right?

As opposed to vanity social media numbers, Google+ community size actually impacts performance! (tweet thistwitter-icon

Plus, the more people you have in your community, the more Google will prioritize your posts when showing up in search results. This means that it’s not just vanity numbers – growing a community and getting engagement isn’t just for your feel-good moments anymore, it’s actually got tangible SEO benefits to it as well!

Get it, girl (or boy)! Get that engagement!

Key #5: Engage with influencers

Speaking of engagement, Google Plus is known as the place where all the influencers hang out. Well, maybe not ALL (I’m looking at you, Marie) but plenty of influencers are active on the platform and what’s better, is they are actively looking for new people to interact with to grow their community.

It’s amazing how many influencers are on Google+ and they are all actually eager to engage with others! (tweet thistwitter-icon

The beautiful thing about Google Plus is that it’s filled with a community that thrives on collaboration. You might see plenty of posts where other influencers are mentioned and tagged to give proper credit. This is a great way to get on the radar of these authorities and begin building a relationship with them.

And we all know that one of the best things to happen to your business is to be mentioned by one of those highly-followed and admired people. From there, you can just sit back and watch your own community grow and referral traffic explode.

Okay, maybe it’s not that cut and dry, but yeah – it’s definitely a step in that direction.
